The "Wilder" Painting Series
ARTIST STATEMENT
Between 2017 and 2018 I worked on a painting series titled, "Wilder". This is a collection of acrylic paintings on wood backings. The frames I designed are made out of cast plaster, acrylic spray paint and silver metallic rub on paint.
I experimented with the frame design to expand the picture plain of each scene. For the relationship I was conveying in this painting series went beyond the picture plain I painted. Within each painting I recreated a surreal yet life-like narrative. I cropped and altered old photographs of my family to use as my reference of inspiration. Ontario's natural world is the only natural world I feel emotionally connected to. In the paintings below, this natural world was used to symbolize what I felt in the instant I found each photograph. While viewing the "Wilder" series, I hope viewers see and sense our human nature within ourselves.
