In general, it has been my underlying goal to generate a sense of critical thought and environmental awareness through an emotional response. In my opinion, our contemporary society cannot sympathize or connect with our environment. Most of our educational systems, government and over-commercialized culture have neglected our natural world. Currently, I am working on an ongoing portraiture series (“Wilder”) of acrylic paintings attempting to reconnect our modern society with our natural world. Using our human emotions, my goal is to transition the viewer into a state of mind that accepts nature in our everyday lives. Emotions are instinctive and described as going “wild” or losing one’s self control. Yet nature, an independent force, is not completely predictable. In this new painting series, I am recreating life-like scenes of emotional individuals and using the symbolism of nature to enhance their frame of mind. In addition, the colour and tone of each work has been rendered to mesmerize and draw attention to this subject matter in a surreal aesthetic. The frames I designed for these paintings expand the view of each work and amplify its hold on the viewer’s gaze.
